What we have been up to in grade six math
To start the year off we began a discussion about MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE! As a class we discovered what works best for each student in the classroom, what ways they can learn, and how to express their learning.
Here is the PPT we utilized, as well as the quiz/graph we used to discover our diverse intelligence in 6C and 6D.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS:
We began discussing what the order of operations is and how we would solve a multi-step number sentence. We began my talking about the importance of an agreed upon sequence in order for everyone to land upon the same answer.
Ex. 4+4x4-4
Most students go the answer 28, when in fact it is 16 BECAUSE we must do the multiplication first. Below is the ways in which students will try and remember the steps.

October 7th- 9th was CTBS testing. This was standardized testing that all students are participating in at the school in both English and Math as a way for teachers to see where our students are at as they come into their current grade. We will be redoing the tests at the end of the year as a way to see how far the students have come.
White boards, number scramble, dice games and crosswords! We tried out many ways to learn the order of operations this week.

INTEGERS
Our next topic in math is the study of integers (whole numbers and their opposites). Students seemed to really grasp this concept quite quickly which is exciting to see. Below is our lesson we used as well as the practice pages they have been working on.
